On December 7th, Seattleites will vote on whether to recall City of Seattle Councilmember Kshama Sawant. People's Party of Washington stands in solidarity with Kshama Sawant. Please read our official announcement of support below.
Whereas Kshama Sawant’s consistent dedication to supporting workers’ rights, fair housing, social justice, and environmental responsibility align with the People’s Party of Washington’s Guiding principles of Dignity, Liberty, Equality, Security, and Stewardship; and,
Whereas Sawant’s policy proposals of increasing the minimum wage, rent control, taxing the wealthiest among us, and expanding public transit align with the People’s Party of Washington’s Vision of a future in which every human being is empowered with the freedom, the opportunity, and the resources necessary to achieve their full potential on a flourishing planet Earth where all beings thrive; and,
Whereas Sawant’s opponents are representatives of large corporate entities, strikebreakers, slumlords, real estate developers, and those committed to maintaining the current duopoly of power, and that these are mutual opponents of the People’s Party of Washington;
Be it Therefore Resolved, that the People’s Party of Washington does hereby officially oppose the efforts to recall Councilmember Kshama Sawant, and formally stands with her in her work improving the lives of her constituents and neighbors; and,
